Kommentare/ Inhalte: In this course we will cover the fundamental aspects of radiotherapy and radiation protection physics, with special attention to radiation transport and dose calculations. Also, the use of multi-modal imaging in radiotherapy for target definition in treatment planning will be discussed and analysed. The lectures “Biomedical Physics” and “Biomedical Physics 2” are not compulsory for attending this course In particular, the following topics will be presented: • Nuclear models and radioactivity • Interaction of photons and charged particles with matter • Basics of radiation transport equations and Monte-Carlo techniques • Dosimetry for radiation therapy and radiation protection • Multi-modality imaging in radiotherapy • Sources for radiotherapy • Basics of treatment planning
Lernziel: At the end of the course, the students will be familiar with the basics of radiation transport and its use in radiotherapy and radiation protection physics. Also, this course will outline the role of imaging in radiotherapy.
