Kommentare/ Inhalte: To mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus SARSCoV-2 and the disease it causes, COVID-19, policymakers around the world have severely restricted the liberties of citizens and markets. This course aims to provide an overview over the literature in economics and related disciplines on the effects of specific governmental interventions to fight the spread of the coronavirus (e.g., mandatory mask wearing, school closures, and stay-at-home orders) as well as the effect of these interventions with respect to other important dimensions (e.g., school performance, other diseases, inequality, violence within the family). A particular focus will be on the econometric challenges to identify the causal effects of these interventions.
Vorgehen: In this course, students will perform their own empirical analysis based on publically available data. To this end, student will also learn to write code in Stata that can easily be replicated by other researchers.
Zusätzliche Hinweise zu Prüfungen: Course requirements: Student presentation and term paper
