Kommentare/ Inhalte:
This seminar focuses on the history and phenomenology of terrorism starting with the earliest identifiable examples in the so-called prehistory of terrorism (the zealots and assassins). The modern history of terrorism will however be the core of the seminar, tracing the phenomenon’s evolution via the five key “waves”:

- the Anarchist wave (1878–1919),
- the Anti-Colonial wave (1920s–early 1960s),
- the New Left wave (mid-1960s–1990s),
- the Religious wave (1979–2019)
- the Extreme Right wave (2011-?)

The seminar will also explore key aspects of defining terrorism, as well as adjacent concepts such as state terrorism, lone actor terrorism or insurgency. Given the main focus of the seminar on the history of terrorism, counterterrorism will not be discussed in detail to remain a topic for a follow up seminar.
The main goal of the seminar for the students is to plan, organize, and hold a virtual one day conference for other students at the end of the term. To facilitate this, the seminar will include the introduction of key steps and tools to help this process.

Lernziel:
a) Basic knowledge about the history and development of terrorism

b) Organization and realization of a virtual conference on the topic for other students

c) How to use advanced presentation tools, such as Prezi, Canva, Gather Town etc.

Vorgehen:
