office in the faculty for information on binding and optional uses of individual STiNE functions for
your specific degree program.

When are the registration deadlines for modules and classes?
You must register for modules and classes before the start of the semester. Please see here for the exact dates.
Why do I need to register?
This helps ensure optimal room capacity usage at the University of Hamburg, and serves the overall planning of classes according to demand. STiNE provides students with an overview of the classes offered by all faculties, enabling the optimal individual planning of interdisciplinary studies in the shortest of times.
Is it mandatory for students to register for classes via STiNE?
Yes, all students pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree are required to register for classes via STiNE. Simply select the desired modules and classes for your degree program and register for these via STiNE before the registration deadline.
Is my place on a course guaranteed once I have registered?
No, it is not. Registration does not constitute a binding booking. After the registration period has ended, the departments can establish whether you will actually be assigned a place in the classes you selected.
Will places be assigned automatically on a first-come, first-served basis?
No, they will not. It is possible to register at any time during the registration period. The booking procedure will only begin after the registration period has ended. The subsequent changes and corrections phase allows you to change or add classes if places are still available. Please note that places are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis during the changes and corrections phase.
How do you decide who receives a place in a class?
The departments agree selection criteria to determine how to allocate places if class sizes are limited and will apply these in STiNE. Please contact the responsible person within your department directly for details of the admission criteria.
When does registration for a class become binding?
A registration becomes binding when you receive the booking confirmation.
How will I be informed of a successful booking?
We will inform you of a successful booking with a message in the portal.
Is it possible to cancel a registration?
Yes, it is possible to cancel the registration at any time during the registration period. Please see the regulations for your specific department.
Do I also need to register for examinations via STiNE?
Yes, you do. Bachelor's and master's degree modules generally conclude with an examination. Therefore, you must also register for an examination date when you register for modules and classes. However, please note that you are only officially registered for an examination when you receive binding confirmation of your place in a module or class.
Am I still able to change my examination dates or to cancel my registration for examinations?
It is possible to register for examinations, change examination dates, and cancel registrations for examinations if registration and cancellation deadlines exist for the examination. Unlike modules and classes, though, the Universtiy of Hamburg does not have university-wide central registration and cancellation deadlines.
