Comments/contents:
The seminar will be held jointly with a delegation of master students from the
University of the Philippines Los Baños
, Laguna. Under the supervision of
Ass.-Prof. Rhea Gumasing
, the students will be on a study trip funded by German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Universität Hamburg is among the three universities that will host the guests for an academic exchange.
Learning objectives:
Students …
can delineate the academic field of development management and governance with a particular focus on South-East Asia;
become familiarized with key concepts and approaches of development management and governance in both theory and practice;
improve their proficiency in academic English (spoken and written) and intercultural communication.
Didactic concept:
Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) will be randomly assigned to the German participants in a preparatory meeting. On that basis, students write a single-authored paper in which they elaborate how development management and governance can contribute to the attainment of the SDG. The papers will be sent to our guests from the Philippines who will comment on them in the seminar after each presentation by the German students. Ideally, there is a 1:1 match of presenting students from Hamburg and commenting students from the Philippines.
Additional examination information:
The exam includes a written paper (50 %) with subsequent presentation (50 %). Please visit
this website
for formal requirements for the papers. The due date of the written paper is June 14th, which is two weeks in advance of the block seminar. Students have to pass both parts of the exam in order to complete the course successfully.
