More information:
English is undoubtedly the lingua franca of academic life. In this course we will focus on developing academic literacy and oral communication skills in English. Students will be provided with the opportunity to practise and enhance academic study skills by analysing and evaluating written and spoken academic texts. Students will be expected to prepare a short academic presentation and participate in class debates.

Enrollment requirements:

Proof of appropriate language level (minimum B2 for B2 courses, C1 for C1 courses), not older than three years.

This can be achieved by:

Taking our online placement test (link)

Submitting a language certificate from a course at the appropriate level (see website for accepted certificates).

Sending us a copy of the Transcript of Records from STiNE showing completion of a course at the appropriate level.

After sending us the required documents you can then go ahead and register for the respective course(s).

Registrations without proof of the appropriate placement test or certificate will be cancelled.

N.B. If you have already had your level assessed by us in the last three years or have already presented us with a certificate then you do not need to prove your level again.

Learning objectives:
Focus will be placed on the following skills: notetaking and paraphrasing, active listening skills, particularly in lectures, spoken production and interaction, in particular how to deliver clear and fluent academic presentations and how to succeed in group work and seminar discussions and finally, how to identify and summarise the main themes in an academic text. The primary focus will be on developing reading, listening and speaking skills, along with the appropriate vocabulary, in an academic context.
