This semester’s class will hone in on the fields of politics and sociology, nursing and pharmacology, business, literature, architecture, religion, fine arts, career planning, and classroom/workplace vocabulary and situations. The class offers brief lectures on the above-mentioned subjects, presenting essential vocabulary and insights into one specific field of study each week. The bulk of the class is spent on exercises, group work, and discussions. This class focuses on vocabulary building through conversations and discussions that will allow students to effectively communicate in their studies and later in their field of work. The class takes an interdisciplinary approach.
Enrollment requirements:
Proof of appropriate language level (minimum B2 for B2 courses, C1 for C1 courses), not older than three years.
This can be achieved by:
Taking our online placement test (link)
Submitting a language certificate from a course at the appropriate level (see website for accepted certificates).
Sending us a copy of the Transcript of Records from STiNE showing completion of a course at the appropriate level.
After sending us the required documents you can then go ahead and register for the respective course(s).
Registrations without proof of the appropriate placement test or certificate will be cancelled.
N.B. If you have already had your level assessed by us in the last three years or have already presented us with a certificate then you do not need to prove your level again.
Learning objectives:
Students will increase their knowledge of terms and vocabulary while intensifying and deepening their working vocabulary. They will learn to use faculty-specific vocabulary in a natural way and to incorporate it into fluid conversation. Social skills relevant to work and study will also be practiced, as will discussing and arguing respectfully and effectively.
