Comments/contents:
The course provides an insight into the political developments and initiatives of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) with a focus on the regions of Eastern Europe and the Southern Caucasus. The historical development, basic principles and instruments of the ENP as an important strategic initiative of the EU to promote democracy, stability and prosperity in its Eastern Neighbourhood and its neighbourhood will be discussed.

The specific political changes in relations between the EU and the countries of Eastern Europe (in particular Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus) and the South Caucasus (in particular Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia) over the last 20 years will be analysed. These countries have faced considerable challenges, particularly in connection with the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

Learning objectives:
In this event, participants will learn about and understand current challenges and future perspectives of the ENP. The course aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of the EU's complex and dynamic relations with its Eastern neighbours and the neighbourhood.

Theoretical learning objective:

Basic principles, objectives, historical development and instruments of the ENP
Political changes and conflicts in Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus
Relations between the EU and the countries of Eastern Europe (in particular Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus)
EU relations with the countries of the Southern Caucasus (esp. Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia)

Practical learning objective:

Practical role-playing exercises on the EU's future relations with the countries of Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus

Didactic concept:
The course combines a theoretical basis with practical exercises to provide participants with a holistic understanding of the ENP in the focus regions mentioned and to give them the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have learnt.
