Kommentare/ Inhalte: Information technology is an area of substantial commercial and entrepreneurial activity. To understand these activities, the course acquaints students with the concept of business models. Business models capture the logic of creating and capturing value. The course first explores established business models in the IT market, such as software business models, as well as business models for consulting and outsourcing services. Secondly, the course reviews new business models, such as cloud services and platform business models. Finally, the students learn how to analyze and generate business models in the context of managerial and entrepreneurial activities. The courses uses case studies and speakers from industry throughout the lecture.
Lernziel: Students understand how to describe, analyze and generate business models. Students learn to apply this knowledge to understand how information technology (IT) is provided as a product and/or service in the market of IT. In particular, the students acquire foundational knowledge on software business models as well as on business models for consulting services, outsourcing services, and cloud services. Moreover, the students learn how to apply business model thinking on novel IT-based service and in entrepreneurial activities.
