Kommentare/ Inhalte:
Operator algebras combine concepts from algebra and from functional analysis. We will look at different kinds of operator algebras and some fundamental results and applications. Topics include C*-algebras and von-Neumann algebras, commutative C*-algebras as functions on a topological space, Gelfand-Naimark-Segal construction of representations from states, applications to quantum mechanics, algebras from canonical commutation and anti-commutation relations and their representations. This seminar is intended for Master students of Mathematics and Mathematical Physics, but it can also be attended by Bachelor students. Some background in functional analysis is helpful.
