Kommentare/ Inhalte: The phenomenon of conversion was widespread in the Middle Ages. One might suggest that many Jews converted to Christianity because they were facing an impossible option: either to convert to Christianity or to be exiled or killed. Several medieval Jewish thinkers also accused the converts of choosing an easier and more comfortable life under Christian rule. The purpose of the course is to focus on how Jewish thinkers polemicized with former Jews. The question: why the Jewish converts left their birth-faith plays a crucial role, for it determines the approach in which they were condemned. Clearly, it was easier to attack the converts for seeking a better political and social benefit. It was much more challenging to deal with genuine doubts the converts raised against Judaism. The main figure is Abner of Burgos (Alfonso of Valladolid), one of the most famous converts in the Middle Ages and the Jewish corresponds for his conversion. The main Jewish thinkers are Isaac Polqar, Moshe Narboni, and Moshe ha-Kohen of Tordesillas
