The course will cover the following four topics

(1) Female Labour Participation and Gender Wage Gap

(2) Gender Norms and Female Health

(3) Family economics

(4) Long term effects of female related outcomes

Lernziel:
On successful completion of this course students should be able to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of recent labour market developments related to the gender wage gap, representation in skilled occupations, penalties to career interruption.

2. Interpret and evaluate empirical evidence drawn in developed countries.

3. Evaluate labour market and family policies pursued by governments including parental leave policies, childcare policies, immigration policies, education and training programs for females.

4. Demonstrate practical/technical skills such as, modelling skills (abstraction and logic), qualitative and quantitative analysis and interpretation of data, applied to the labour market.

Vorgehen:
Course taught in Seminar format where the instructor introduces a broad topic and its related literature. Students choose and present a paper from the list of suggested literature for the topic. Students discuss in class the contributions of the literature presented by them and their peers. The course will also include a term paper where students choose and discuss one of the topics presented during the course. This term paper should discuss potential research ideas that could be derived from the literature discussed in class and include ways to perform them.
