Kommentare/ Inhalte:
The seminar will examine both the theory and the practice of global governance by focusing on the different types of actors involved, the relationsships between them and the various institutional forms through which they interact. Part of the theoretical reflection will deal with normative issues - esp. legitimacy and authority - of such arrangements while the practice section will focus on several concrete instances of issue-specific governance (environment, human rights, trade/investment etc.) with a view to assessing its effectiveness and shortcomings.

Lernziel:
The course objective is to acquaint participants with the major theoretical debates surrounding global governance and to enable them to critically assess the design and effectiveness of concrete institutional arrangements.

Vorgehen:
The course will consist of a mix of problem-based learning (PBL) and discussion-focused sessions. Each week there will be either a case or 1-2 readings, as appropriate; most weekly assignments (the Studienleistung) - e.g., PBL handouts - can be prepared in groups. All written materials will be circulated using MS Teams while live videoconferencing will be done via Zoom.
