Kommentare/ Inhalte: This seminar provides an introduction into the topic of social impact evaluation and its implications for nonprofit organizations, and for cultural organizations in particular. Different approaches to conceptualize and assess social impact are discussed which have become important as instruments for cultural institutions to use within their internal governance as well as in external communication to the public and funders. The seminar will cover a broad range of important questions related to impact assessment. What societal and organizational trends explain the increased focus on impact measurement? What are the critiques of the trends towards measuring impact? How do we conceptualize social impact along multiple dimensions? What are specific dimensions of social impact in cultural institutions? What are quantitative and qualitative approaches and tools for impact assessment? What are situations when we should not measure impact? As a specific context, we will collaborate with members of the POEM research network that examines participatory memory practices. You can find further information here: https://www.poem-horizon.eu/ In the seminar, we will define specific student group projects related to impact evaluation. Further information on related literature, specific group projects and the overall course structure will follow at a later stage. Assignment will be a group presentation and a related essay.
