Kommentare/ Inhalte: This seminar analyzes the Yemen conflict to deal with approaches to conflict analysis and conflict transformation. In the first few weeks, we will talk about the different actors and their motivations, possible causes of conflict, and war dynamics in Yemen. In the second half of the lecture, we will learn more about the concepts of reconciliation and transitional justice. The seminar is part of a cross-site teaching project. We will discuss the concepts with students and lecturers of other German universities at Freiburg, Magdeburg, Mainz, Marburg, and Tübingen via Zoom. And we will invite experts from the field and Yemen to discuss the topics with us. The seminar language and the material we are going to use will be English.
Lernziel: One aim of the seminar is to gain insights into different approaches to conflict analysis. You will also get a deep insight into the Yemen conflict. With the help of Zoom, you can exchange ideas directly with experts and students at other locations.
Vorgehen: The online-phases are designed and guided from different locations. The focus here is on exchanging various approaches. Furthermore, experts, some of whom do field research in Yemen, will be connected live to the session to answer the students' questions and describe their results. The preparation phases for the individual sessions consist of seminar literature and online lectures by selected experts.
Zusätzliche Hinweise zu Prüfungen: The course performance includes regular attendance in the seminar, preparation for the meetings (literature, lectures, research), and inputs for the seminar sessions. The latter can be the writing of texts and dossiers, but it can also include digital elements such as podcasts or interviews.
