Kommentare/ Inhalte: This seminar will be held in English (both in class and readings) and will take place in blocks of 3 hours. Students who attended the seminar "International Climate and Environmental Policies" in the SoSe 22 cannot take this seminar as contents and topics are mostly overlapping. We will learn about the basic principles of environmental and climate economics and apply them to the analysis of European environmental policies and international agreements. The approach of the seminar is twofold: First, the necessary knowledge and skills sre presented in a lecture format (first three sessions) that allows for questions and clarifications. The last four block sessions will be dedicated to student's presentations and preparation for the term paper. Economic concepts that will be revised include: - Environmental trade-offs and cost-benefit analysis - Markets - Public goods and externalities - Price-based and quantity-based regulatory instruments - Behavioral aspects of environmental policies - Game theory European policies and international agreements considered include: - Montreal Protocol - UNFCCC and international climate agreements - Agriculture and forestry - European ETS - individual contributions to environmental protection Evaluations will be based on a class presentation (40%) and a term paper (60%).
