Comments/contents:
Digital audio effects, in the widest sense, denote algorithms that deliberately modify a digital audio signal. Well known examples from music production are, e.g., artificially adding reverberation to a studio recording and the adjustment of the pitch („auto-tune“). Also 3D audio reproduction, over headphones or via loudspeakers, typically rely on digital audio effects. The same holds for the suppression of undesired sounds in a recording.
Learning objectives:
In this proseminar, independently of the exact topic, the students will learn and practice the basics of scientific work, including
- independently delving into and understanding a challenging scientific topic
- structured literature review
- scientific writing and presentation
Didactic concept:
Following a concise introduction into the topic of digital audio effects and the basics of scientific working (see section above), every attendee will delve into a focused sub-area, e.g. a specific audio effect, write a report and give a presentation about the respective topic. After each presentation there will be a discussion round, where the audience will ask questions and give feedback.
