The exercise introduces techniques of writing theoretical texts and serves as preparation for writing the major theory paper. Topics covered in the course include:
- What are typical designs of theoretical papers?
- Topic identification: How do I turn a topic into a sociological problem?
- How do I structure a theoretical argument?
- How do I write an abstract?
- Rhetorics of theoretical writing
Learning objectives:
Learning writing and argumentation skills in the area of sociological theory.
Didactic concept:
The focus of the course is on small exercises of your own (e.g. writing an abstract; analyzing excerpts from BA theses, writing an exposé); this is supplemented by reading texts on scientific writing.
